      Hours are limited for accepting paint, oil and other household hazardous waste.

WELCOME

San Francisco’s transfer station is the local hub for resource recovery and disposal activities in the city. Here you can drop off your discards and visit the Environmental Learning Center. The SF Transfer Station is a registered construction and demolition debris recycling facility and also home to the renowned Artist in Residence Program.

  • Electronic Waste Drop Off
    Electronic Waste & Universal Waste Drop Off

    Electronic and universal waste, such as consumer batteries, cell phones, and TVs are prohibited from the trash and recycling carts because they contain poisonous heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium that can pollute groundwater and pose harmful effects to public health. Please drop off these items at this facility for safe disposal.

    Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off

    It is illegal to put household hazardous waste in the trash or recycling carts. Hazardous waste includes items such as fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, sharps, medications, and other toxic chemicals.

    When hazardous wastes end up in a landfill, they can cause serious threats to humans, wildlife and the environment. Please drop off these items at this facility for safe disposal.

    Buy Back Center

    Our buy-back centers are available for customers to drop off recyclable bottles and cans for deposit redemption (CRV). Most plastic and aluminum beverage containers are subject to CRV (paper/wax milk and juice cartons are not accepted).

    As buildings are constructed, remodeled or demolished, metal, wood, sheetrock, rigid plastic, and other construction materials can be recovered and made into recycled construction material.
  • Transfer Station
    Transfer Station

    Our transfer stations serve as public drop-off locations for materials to be hauled and processed at nearby compost or recycling facilities. Depending on the facility, items may be sorted and then taken to their respective processing facilities based on material type.

    Transfer stations typically accept all sorts of recyclable materials. Please see the accepted items list or check with us before visiting to ensure acceptance of certain wastes.

PUBLIC DROP OFF & DISPOSAL RATES
Effective July 1, 2017, all loads entering the transfer station must be properly covered (tarped and tied down). Any loads that arrive not properly covered will be subject to a $20 fee. Please help us keep our community safe and clean.

Note: Separate loads consisting of only non-commercial, California origin CRT, Plasma, or LCD display devices may be recycled at no charge. Non-commercial, California origin CRT’s, Plasma, and LCD display devices mixed with other types of solid waste being offered for disposal will be charged at the regular disposal rate of $156.62 per ton.
