Recology transports 30+ containers six days a week from the Recycle Central® recycling plant to paper mills, glass plants, and other manufacturers that purchase recycled materials.
Designed and constructed by Recology in partnership with The City of San Francisco, the Recycle Central facility opened in 2002 and is a critical component of achieving zero waste.
- The Recycle Central plant covers 185,000 square feet.
- Approximately 750 tons of commingled materials are sorted for recycling at this facility every day.
- The Recycle Central workforce includes over 180 employee owners, many from nearby neighborhood Bayview Hunters Point.
Recycle Central workers like to say, “Life’s a mess and we sort it out.”
Recology takes pride in resource recovery at the Recycle Central plant, which is the new means of waste management so that materials are collected, recycled, and re-made into new products and not put into a landfill.
