Through processes of sculpture, electronics, installation, custom fabrication, and self-taught engineering, Andrew Sungtaek Ingersoll explores new and inventive systems of understanding. He’s Influenced by DIY sub-cultures, traditional practices, technology, transcendental experience, the effects of war, and shifting ecological and political landscapes. This re-negotiation of function, form, and meaning parallels complexities of a nuanced multicultural existence and empowers the idea that we each have the potential to reimagine ourselves, our purpose, and the world around us. From ping-pong powered Korean ritual instruments, to rice-cookers converted with car audio systems, Ingersoll is interested in engaging audiences by shifting roles of viewer experience and exploring systems of identity construction and will continue this exploration while at Recology.

Ingersoll has exhibited work at; Delaplane Gallery, San Francisco, CA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Worth Ryder Gallery, Berkeley, CA; and the ICA San Francisco. He has artwork publicly installed at Franconia Sculpture Park in Minneapolis and has contributed scientific research to a published journal on the role of Buddhism and Hinduism on ecological landscapes (avian species distribution) in Urban Kathmandu, Nepal.
