Charitable Contributions and Sponsorships
Eligibility
Recology will consider requests for monetary or in-kind donations that meet specific criteria. All donations must be used for the stated purpose and not passed along for the benefit of some other unspecified organization.
We award grants to:
- Charitable, nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in our service area classified as 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service
- Public K-12 schools in our service area
- Organizations, programs and services that are aligned with our mission and vision as a resource recovery company
- Organizations that comply with our nondiscrimination policy for both programming and hiring practices
Requests that won’t be considered
Recology does not provide charitable contributions (monetary or in-kind) or sponsorships to the following:
- Individuals
- Travel by groups or individuals
- The religious services or activities of religious organizations whose purpose or emphasis is to celebrate or propagate a religious faith or creed, such as churches, missionary groups, sectarian welfare, or relief efforts. Exceptions may be granted where programs benefit the community at large (e.g., contributions to support a church’s community food bank)
- Organizations that provide funding that specifically benefits public officials, government employees, or a government agency
- Organizations that have discriminatory policies or practices against a protected class as defined by state and federal laws
- Organizations that reallocate Recology’s monetary donation to other organizations
- A party, gala, soiree, etc.
- For-profit organizations
- 501(c) private foundations or trusts
- Labor organizations
- Capital expenses to purchase vehicles, office furniture, computers, etc.
- Behested Payments, which is a monetary or in-kind donation made at the behest of any governmental commissioner, department head, elected official, governmental agency, or agent thereof, and that is made principally for a legislative, governmental, or charitable purpose. “At the behest of” means under the control or at the direction of, in cooperation, consultation, coordination, or in concert with, at the request or suggestion of, or with the express, prior consent of
- Any recipient that would create a conflict of interest for Recology
How to Apply
We do not accept paper or email applications. Discuss your request with local Recology leadership or their designee. If you are invited by local leadership to apply, then apply online.
You will be asked to provide:
- Details about your organization (such as your IRS Determination Letter or most recent Form 990, complete list of Board of Directors or organizational leadership, and nondiscrimination statement)
- Project or event details (such as description, how it aligns with Recology’s mission and vision, and its impact on the local community)
All requests for a donation to an event must be submitted no less than 10 business days prior to an event or program. No exceptions.
Attestation
Part of the application includes an attestation. Recology will rely on the information you provide in determining whether to make a charitable contribution or sponsorship. By submitting your request, you certify that the information you provide is accurate and complete, and that you have read and understand each component of the Attestation.
- The contribution requested and described above will be used only for the purpose and by the organization described;
- The requestor is a 501(c) charitable organization or K-12 public school in Recology’s service area that is properly registered with the relevant legal and/or tax authorities;
- Recology’s donation will not be used to benefit any one individual or a select group of individuals beyond providing assistance in ways in keeping with the requestor’s charitable mission;
- At Recology’s request, the requestor will provide supporting documentation regarding the use of Recology’s donation;
- Recology’s donation is not being made at the request of any government official(s) who have approval authority, oversight, or day-to-day operational control over a contract with Recology;
- The requestor obtained the CyberGrants invitation code from an authorized source at Recology; and
- The requestor’s acceptance of Recology’s donation complies with relevant laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, state and federal anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, as well as any other applicable rules.
