We’re proud to share that Alfredo “Fred” Chavez from Recology San Mateo County, has been recognized as a 2026 Technician of the Year Nominee by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA)! This new award recognizes mechanical professionals, like Fred, whose expertise, commitment to safety, and service excellence contribute to keeping operations running smoothly.
With 30 years in the industry, Fred plays a critical role in helping to maintain our fleet of approximately 165 collection vehicles, administrative offices, and maintenance shops. Recently, he was also key to a fuel storage tank replacement project where his technical experience, regulatory awareness, and effective coordination skills were critical to success.
Fred has become known as the “go-to expert for all equipment in our yard,” as General Manager Marcus Mirt states. He has earned the trust and admiration of his peers not only for his technical knowledge and strong commitment to safety, but also for his willingness to step in and lend a hand whenever needed.
