Yiming Clara Li is interested in how forms of language—utterance, noise, color, gait, space—construct the fabric of our reality. Interrogating how modes of seeing and being are constructed and how their supposed solidity can be unsettled, she turns to construction materials and found objects, using sculpture and photography to render questions in material form. Propelled by a cross-continental upbringing and its constant reshaping of linguistic, moral, and emotional meaning, she seeks grounding beyond place and tongue, arriving at the only language that feels untethered: the sensory world.

Her work has been shown at Climate Control Gallery and FOG Fair in San Francisco. Upcoming exhibitions include 500 Capp Street Foundation and Slash, both in San Francisco. She runs the exhibition series 202019: Occasions and is currently studying at University of California, Berkeley and Laney College. She is based in Berkeley, CA and Beijing, China.
